What is your role and how long have you worked for ZITON?
I am a First Engineer (now, Chief Engineer), and have been employed at ZITON since September 2021.
What does it take for you to perform your job at your best?
Challenges for both hands and mind, technically and managerially. In general, having challenges so that everything is not just “assembly line work”, always working on developing and improving ourselves, good colleagues, a good working environment, and that we make things happen and find solutions – “Can do. Will do.” as our motto states.
What is the most challenging part of the job for you?
I am afraid of heights, but heights are part of the charm in our industry, and you must be able to work with it. There are no specific challenges, but many small ones.
What motivates you to go to work every day?
New challenges, new experiences, projects that need to be worked on, good colleagues, the opportunity to optimise something and do something better, and that we develop ourselves every day.
What do you think is the coolest case you have worked on? And why?
My drive lies in breakdowns or sudden problems that need to be solved here and now. Therefore, I do not have a specific thing in mind, but the times when we have challenges to solve, that the resources are there, and that it is always possible to solve the task regardless of the challenges, so that we can move forward in the project.
How has your workplace helped you develop as a person?
With a mixed group of people and personalities, you always learn new things about others and yourself, and even though I have already learned a lot, there is still more to learn, especially because I am in a shipping company that does what they can to be at the forefront and try new things by being first movers.
Why is this your dream workplace?
Because there are plenty of challenges and new things to try, along with a lot of good colleagues and we become a kind of family onboard. And not least because there is a really good work/life balance here, we come and go as far as possible on time – four weeks out, four weeks home – and because when we are off, we actually have free time, our free time and shift schedules are respected, and we are contacted only if it is absolutely necessary.
What do you like to do in your free time?
First and foremost, I spend time with my husband and kids, but as “sea-blue” as I am when I am at work, as “garden-green” I am when I am at home, my free time is spent in the kitchen garden, orangery, fruit orchard, and in the garden. Otherwise, I spend my time fixing up the farm, with friends and family, good wine, and food.
